Fashion Vs Function ft Maggie

A friend pointed out that the story is different when the user goes to a beach. Which kinda brings us back to the argument about how footwear serves as a statement of fashion or a servant of function. At the beach you could wear sandals or diamond encrusted flipflops, you would probably look better with sandals but they would be damaged with the water and sand and yet while you look less good with flipflops, your shoes are safe from the elements. Its a constant battle, I agree, which is why I always bring 2 sets. One for the beach and one for when I leave the beach. To me, it's still about looking good within my comfort zone and in this case, Im just not comfortable with wearing flip flops in a mall. But it may be different from others. Hmm, maybe I should start asking when I snap the photos. Anyways, Happy Chinese new year everyone!

Interview 0.3 with HeelsandWedges

Hello all!

As a huge fan of local fashion blogs, I had, and was lucky enough to conduct an email interview with Fatiha from heelandwedges and ask all the questions that have been bubbling in my mind ever since I started reading her blog early 2011. Mainly sharing beautifully shot outfit photos, she also shares useful informations about stores like espirit and etc and also conducted  the most interesting type of flea ever -- in her house! How interesting is that?

1. Hello Fatiha, how did heelsandwedges started?

I began reading fashion blogs early 2010 when my best friend introduced me to this particular blogosphere. Before H&W, I ran a lifestyle blog, sharing bits and pieces of my life with my readers. After a long while of staying up in the morning to catch up on my favorite blogs, I decided to change the direction of mine, and created H&W. Why H&W? Simply because i love shoes.

2. What would you say if someone asked how is heelsandwedges different from the rest?

Goodness... there's so many fashion blogs out there that i dare not say mine is any different. Haha.

3. How would you describe your style?

Feminine with a touch of masculinity. I love colors too, it's always a challenge to style colored garments, and boy do I live for that.

4. Favorite phrase at the moment?

"Let's G!" (Let's go)

5. Fashion blogs or magazines?

Fashion blogs ftw.

6. Which are some of your favorites?

Fashiontoast and Luxirare are my top most fav. I enjoy reading, and especially supporting local fashion blogs.

7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Continuing my fashion blog with hopefully more readers. Reality-wise, I'm hoping that I'm a professional stylist by then, or at least be in the fashion industry.

8. How has heelsandwedges changed you?

It has made me more fashion-concious, and at the same time make me take risks in the way I style myself because sometimes I feel like I'm living in a rut when it comes to dressing up, if you know what I mean. The downside of it is that, it makes me lust for so many things (especially shoes) and make a pauper out of me. :(

9. As asked by Venetia from fashiononyourfeet, what's your favorite shoe at the moment?

My newly-repaired Joe's Brenda. It took me months to get them to the cobbler out of sheer laziness.

All pictures belongs to H&W

10. Lastly, what would you like to ask the next interviewee?

Would you give up your fashion blog for any reason?

This outfit was a surprising result from the morning rush. Pulled out this purple top from Oakham and the wine red shorts from fareast and put on some daiso socks. Used a printed bag for the unexpected bit and ran off in my roach colour dmarts. Maggie snapped these photos for me before class and helped me arrange it.

The week has been absolutely busy, with awful deadlines and cthings to complete, Ive just been going through the motions of going to school really early and then coming home really late and having no energy for anything else. I did manage to meet up with a few friends which actually became the highlight of the week, since I was much too disturbed by other parts of my life. Hopefully the coming week would be much better with chinese new year celebrations and all. One thing I know for sure if that there is definitely exciting things tolook out for for the coming days on this blog. Check back in tomorrow! :)

Ive forgotten how good a sturdy pair of  shoe feels on the feet. The past year was a streak of absence of shoe luck, where shoes would tear while I walk, get an ugly stain and etc. This year is gonna be a good year and these shoes marks the great start of it. :)

I realised after I got out of the house that Ive actually worn this shirt for another shoot before but the feeling you get from this is very very different from the other because of the way it's been handled. Tucked in with sleeves rolled up, I think they give a pretty good vibe. Probably due to a book Ive been reading, called Parisian Chic. It didnt last long though, cause the next day I was back to my skater girl thing.

The bracelet is a present from shandy on my birthday and I think it gives a really soft touch to this outfit. I loveeee it. :)

Ive been struck for the longest time about how form and function does not seem to work around the design for clothings. Shoes especially. Flipflops are insanely comfortable and yet, they mark down the outfit by nearly a million points. My initial idea for this collaborative project with Anza and Maggie was to photograph 1 person in the same outfit can look vastly different with 2 types of footware, with one being flipflops. The statement was flipflops ruin outfits. But after glancing through all the photos Ive taken, I realised that there is perhaps more to it than just ruining outfits. The notions behind why one group resist flipflop so strongly and why the other doesnt really just stands on the battle between comfort and fashion, doesnt it?

Dont worry, this isnt the end. More would follow throughout the month.

Recently, Ive been cutting off sleeves from my clothes and ddoing a bunch of DIY my mum does not approve of. So when she saw me hanging this dress in the bathroom when preparing for my shower, it was pretty amusing how annoyed she was. This dress used to have this puff sleeves that I found too formal-ish and teacher like, so I snipped them off yesterday night. It kept fray afterwards, but the vest was a life saver. Yes yes, youve seen it a million times. But I love it, how can you not? Its soo skater-ish and days like this, all I wanna do is look like I couldnt be bothered. Oh, but the dress in the heavy workshop was pretty unique. Ah ha.

Yup you right. This is the same dress shandy was wearing in a few post ago. We have agreed that after spending nearly everyday together and shopping together so often, we have grown to like the same things. However, the way we prefer to style it is still going to be different because we are ultimately very different people. But I guess that the fun part isnt it? Seeing how 2 people can transform the same things into 2 different things. Feels a bit like project runway.

The guy featured in the photo is a coursemate. I swear to god I love his hair and his outfit. And I loved my nails and hair tie. Im always awkward at endings.

This birthday, there was a 2 day celebration, both which was insanely wonderful. No parties involved, just cosy meet ups with the dearest people, the way I like it. After a day out with shandylove, I met up with my bestest friends for dinner at pizza hut, where we celebrated with pizza and handmade candles(literally). Best moments in the longest times. Spent today with my family, where my siblings blindfolded me, drove me across the country and got me a present that I wanted for years. I shall share it with you in due time. Cosy dinner at night where we ate dirt cakes and then fianlly a trip to club st. While I was still considering the chances of spending it alone on thursday, it all changed the next day and once again, I thanked who ever is up there for all this fabulous people.

Thank you all who wished me a happy birthday!

Happy new year!

I started the year with a spontaneous party crash, celebrating the new year with a bunch of strangers who turned out to be really hilarious. Then there was staying in for recuperating, cycling for far too long, exploring places Ive grown to love, buying last minute tickets to new years eve with my siblings and  then feeling like we were overseas in our jackets and flipflops, meeting up with my dearest girlfriends from jc, thinking of a boy, dressing up to the nines and embarking on the journey to making my very first skirt. This year actually looks very promising. But yet somehow, im not looking forward to tmr.

Till then, I shall work towards living each day to it's fullest.
