When I choose my outfit, I decide on the pair of shoes I would wear with it. That way, I can change my top/ shoes accordingly. It seems natural to me, to think about what to wear from head to toe. With that principle in mind, I do wonder if people just lose the enthusiasm for dressing up and decide to just go with the first pair of shoes they see and ruin an otherwise perfect outfit.

Just after we snapped the first photo, Aida asked if she could keep her socks on. So I thought why not. And ehere we have, a switch of the subject. Where in my opinion, the socks with flipflop actually looks more interesting than the shoes. Isnt this time shoes functional and socks with flipflops fashionable since it looks good but not functional since you cant get your grip on it? I guess once again it makes refererences to the previous Fashion Vs Function post about how the argument changes with the scenario?

A friend pointed out that the story is different when the user goes to a beach. Which kinda brings us back to the argument about how footwear serves as a statement of fashion or a servant of function. At the beach you could wear sandals or diamond encrusted flipflops, you would probably look better with sandals but they would be damaged with the water and sand and yet while you look less good with flipflops, your shoes are safe from the elements. Its a constant battle, I agree, which is why I always bring 2 sets. One for the beach and one for when I leave the beach. To me, it's still about looking good within my comfort zone and in this case, Im just not comfortable with wearing flip flops in a mall. But it may be different from others. Hmm, maybe I should start asking when I snap the photos. Anyways, Happy Chinese new year everyone!

Ive been struck for the longest time about how form and function does not seem to work around the design for clothings. Shoes especially. Flipflops are insanely comfortable and yet, they mark down the outfit by nearly a million points. My initial idea for this collaborative project with Anza and Maggie was to photograph 1 person in the same outfit can look vastly different with 2 types of footware, with one being flipflops. The statement was flipflops ruin outfits. But after glancing through all the photos Ive taken, I realised that there is perhaps more to it than just ruining outfits. The notions behind why one group resist flipflop so strongly and why the other doesnt really just stands on the battle between comfort and fashion, doesnt it?

Dont worry, this isnt the end. More would follow throughout the month.
